[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] On August 12, Krafton announced its financial results for the second quarter, reporting consolidated revenues of KRW 707 billion, operating profit of KRW 332 billion, and net profit of KRW 341 billion. This represents an 82.7% increase in revenue year-over-year and a 6.2% increase compared to the previous quarter. Operating profit surged by 152.6% year-over-year and 7% quarter-over-quarter. Despite the traditionally slow second quarter, the company exceeded market expectations with its positive performance.

For the first half of the year, Krafton achieved record-high semi-annual results, with revenues totaling KRW 1.3729 trillion and operating profit reaching KRW 642.6 billion. The half-year operating profit accounted for 84% of last year's annual total, raising expectations for a record year.

The driving force behind these results was the mobile segment of the ‘PUBG: Battlegrounds’ intellectual property (IP). Mobile revenues increased by 104.2% year-over-year and 24.3% quarter-over-quarter, totaling KRW 499.9 billion. The 'PUBG Mobile' saw a 30% increase in daily active users (DAU) and a 40% rise in paying users compared to the same period last year.

Although PC revenues decreased by 21.5% compared to the previous quarter, they grew by 63.5% year-over-year, reaching KRW 191.3 billion. Successful initiatives such as the Erangel Classic map and the NewJeans collaboration contributed to this growth.

Krafton’s CFO, Baedong-keun, stated, “In the first half of the year, we strengthened the influence of the PUBG IP through various live services.” He also noted that monthly active users for PC and console platforms increased by 40% year-over-year, and paying users grew by 130%.

Notably, despite the rise in overall operating expenses, which totaled KRW 374.9 billion in the second quarter—a 5.5% increase from the previous quarter and a 46.7% increase from the previous year—Krafton was able to boost its profit margins due to revenue growth.

Krafton plans to continue its growth trajectory based on strong performance metrics for its PUBG IP games and aims to accelerate the discovery of new growth drivers.
