[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda met publicly for the first time on October 27 at a major motorsports event in South Korea, showcasing a mutual commitment to collaboration in the high-performance vehicle sector.
The event, held at Everland Speedway in Yongin, featured a festival organized jointly by Hyundai’s high-performance N brand and Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) division. The festival highlighted both companies’ high-performance models and racing cars, aiming to bolster motorsports culture in the region.
During the event, Chairman Chung joined Toyoda, also known by his racing pseudonym “MORIZO,” to participate in a car parade, symbolizing their shared enthusiasm for motorsports. Chung and Toyoda took the lead, driving the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Drift Spec and the GR Yaris Rally 1 Hybrid, respectively, in a demonstration lap.
This collaboration marks a significant moment for the auto industry, with the top and third-largest global automakers aligning in motorsport—a step that could signal broader cooperative opportunities.
