[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Group's defense industry subsidiaries have decided to increase the number of new university graduate hires to 600 this year.
On the 8th, Hanwha Group announced that three of its major defense subsidiaries—Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Ocean, and Hanwha Systems—will raise the number of new hires to approximately 600 this year. This move is aimed at securing a large number of research and development (R&D) personnel due to the increasing demand in the defense sector.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to allocate 55% of the new recruits to R&D positions. Hanwha Ocean aims to expand its workforce in the development, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of special vessels like warships. Hanwha Systems will strengthen its development personnel in radar, satellite, and maritime systems.
Hanwha Group's effort to attract defense talent is closely tied to the growth potential of the defense market. With prolonged conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, the global defense market is rapidly expanding. According to market research firm Statista, the global defense market reached $2.113 trillion (about KRW 2,830 trillion) last year, and it is projected to grow to $2.243 trillion (about KRW 3,004 trillion) this year.
The profitability of domestic defense companies has also significantly improved. Defense exports, which were $3 billion in 2020, increased to $14 billion in 2023. Industry experts anticipate that defense exports will surpass $20 billion this year.
