Park An-su, the Army Chief of Staff who was appointed as the Martial Law Commander immediately after President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a state of emergency, announced on the 5th that he had submitted his resignation to then-Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun on the 4th.
In a response during an emergency inquiry at the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly, Park confirmed this when Rep. Yoo Yong-won of the People Power Party asked whether he had tendered his resignation.
He added, "I understand that the Ministry of National Defense is reviewing my resignation."
