[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] AMD CEO Lisa Su is set to meet Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon on March 18, in a move seen as part of AMD’s efforts to expand partnerships with major GPU customers and challenge Nvidia’s dominance in the market.
According to industry sources on March 17, Su will visit Naver’s headquarters, Green Factory, in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on the morning of March 18 to hold talks with Choi.
The meeting is widely interpreted as AMD’s strategy to strengthen ties with Naver, one of South Korea’s key GPU customers, as it seeks to gain ground against Nvidia in the fast-growing AI semiconductor market.
The two companies are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on semiconductor supply cooperation during the meeting.
Amid a global shortage of AI chips, Naver is aiming to secure a stable supply chain, while AMD is looking to expand its base of major customers.
The companies are also expected to explore collaboration in the AI data center sector. Naver has been expanding large-scale infrastructure to support its in-house AI models, and AMD could emerge as a key partner in providing the necessary hardware.
Meanwhile, Su is scheduled to visit Samsung Electronics’ Pyeongtaek campus later the same day. She is expected to meet top executives, including Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) division, and President Han Jin-man, head of the foundry business, and tour production facilities.
