[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] GM Korea's Changwon plant has been shut down due to a power outage caused by a failure of underground power line facilities.
According to related industries on the 26th, the connection to GM Korea's underground transmission line, which receives electricity from Samjeong Substation in Seongsan-gu, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, was damaged on the 24th for unknown reasons. The plant was shut down as power supply to GM Korea's Changwon plant was cut off due to damage to the connection box. GM Korea estimates that about 1,000 production disruptions occurred on the 25th alone.
Since it was the union's foundation day, there was no damage due to the closure, but if the damage is not recovered early, it is expected that the plant will be shut down again from the 27th.
The Chevrolet Trax crossover, made at GM Korea's Changwon plant, is so popular that it was listed as the No. 1 export car among domestic finished cars last year. Last year alone, 216,833 units were exported, most of which go to the North American market. In particular, 41,974 Trax crossovers were shipped between January and February this year, maintaining the top spot.
