[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Prosecutors have summoned related WeMade officials for alleged fraud in issuance of "Wemix" virtual assets (cryptocurrency).
An official at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office met with reporters on the 5th and said, "We are continuing our investigation by listening to statements from WeMade people."
However, he added, "Representative Jang Hyun-guk has not been summoned yet."
Wemade is under investigation for the issue of issuance and distribution of Wemix coins. Wemix was listed on the cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb in October 2020, on Coinone in December 2021, and on Upbit in January last year. However, it was designated as a matter of concern in November of the same year due to a problem with mass liquidity in January last year and was delisted in December.
Investors sued CEO Jang, saying, "Wemade made huge profits by deceiving investors with intentional and serious false information about distribution volume in the process of issuing Wemix."
The prosecution is also looking into the suspicion of Wemade's avoidance of reporting virtual asset operators. Wemade is suspected of not reporting on related virtual asset exchanges such as Phoenix and wallet service company PlayWallet.
