[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] According to Seoul's commercial district analysis service on the 5th, the number of fast-food stores in Seoul decreased by 4.3% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, dropping from 6,110 to 5,858. Among these, franchise stores saw a significant decline of 7.7%, falling from 2,670 to 2,491. The number of general stores decreased by 2.2%. The number of chicken specialty stores also decreased by 2.7%, from 5,676 in the first quarter of last year to 5,521 this year. The number of chicken franchise stores dropped by 4.8%, from 3,492 to 3,324.

The number of self-employed individuals putting their stores up for sale is also increasing. According to an online store transaction platform, nearly 100 Mom's Touch burger franchise stores nationwide are up for sale. Given that there are 1,430 Mom's Touch stores nationwide, this means that about 7% of the stores are waiting for new owners. The number of stores listed by franchisees of the top three chicken franchises—bhc, BBQ, and Kyochon Chicken—has also reached 190. Some franchisees who cannot afford to maintain their stores are seeking new buyers, even if it means giving up their rights to the store.

Currently, the brokerage fees for delivery platforms such as Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats, and Yogiyo are around 9.7% to 9.8% of the food price. When including delivery fees, it is reported that these costs account for approximately 30% of the total food price.
