[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Theborn Korea, the company led by renowned restaurateur Baek Jong-won and operator of the Paik’s Coffee franchise, issued an official apology after reports surfaced of suspected mold found in frozen rice cakes sold at some of its locations.



In a statement to Yonhap News TV, Theborn Korea said, “We sincerely apologize to the customer who experienced discomfort, and we feel a deep sense of responsibility for this incident.”



The apology follows a series of posts on online communities, where customers claimed to have discovered mold on the frozen rice cake product known as Gaba Bap-al Tteok purchased from Paik’s Coffee.



On May 17, a post titled “Be Careful with Paik’s Coffee Gaba Bap-al Tteok” appeared on the university community app Everytime. The customer stated, “I ordered Gaba Bap-al Tteok from Paik’s Coffee today, and when I received it, it had mold. When I called the store, they said it’s stored frozen, but I’ve ordered this several times and this has never happened before.”



Photos shared alongside the post showed yellow-colored rice cakes with visible white and greenish substances suspected to be mold.



Additional customers also reported similar experiences, further fueling the hygiene controversy surrounding the product.



Theborn Korea has not yet announced whether a product recall or investigation into supply chain hygiene protocols will be conducted.
