[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Passengers who filed a lawsuit against T'way Air over a prolonged departure delay on a flight to Osaka last year will receive compensation from the airline, according to recent court rulings.
On Thursday, legal sources reported that a settlement recommendation issued on March 20 by Judge Kim Han-chul of the Seoul Western District Court’s Civil Division 22 has been finalized without objections from either party. Under the ruling, T'way Air is required to compensate 150 passengers for both emotional damages and verified financial losses by April 30.
The plaintiffs had originally sought around 90 million KRW (approximately USD 67,000) in damages, citing additional expenses for rebooking flights, late-night taxi fares due to delayed arrivals, and non-refundable tour bookings.
While the exact amount of compensation has not been disclosed, it is reported that a significant portion of the claimed amount was accepted by the court.
The case stems from an incident on June 13, 2023, when T'way Air flight TW283 from Incheon to Osaka, and the returning flight TW284 from Osaka to Incheon—both operated by the same aircraft—were delayed for approximately 11 hours. The passengers subsequently pursued legal action against the airline.
