[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines announced a policy change requiring passengers to store their carry-on luggage in the overhead bins themselves starting January 2, 2024.

Previously, flight attendants assisted passengers with placing or retrieving luggage from the bins upon request. However, the airline explained that frequent injuries, such as bruises to the hands and arms of crew members, prompted the new rule.

Exceptions will be made for passengers with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and others who may find it difficult to lift heavy items. Flight attendants will continue to assist these groups.

Additionally, Asiana Airlines emphasized strict enforcement of the 10kg weight limit for carry-on luggage. Items exceeding this weight must be checked as baggage.
