[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Doosan Enerbility has entered into a strategic partnership with the largest power company in the Philippines to enhance power generation operations in the region.

On October 8, Doosan Enerbility announced the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Philippine power companies on October 7 (local time). These agreements were made during a business forum in Manila, coinciding with President Yoon Suk-yeol's state visit to the Philippines.

The primary partnership is with Meralco, the Philippines' largest electricity provider, which supplies approximately 55% of the country's total power across 39 cities and 72 municipalities. Under this MOU, Doosan Enerbility will collaborate with Meralco in the areas of nuclear power, small modular reactors (SMRs), and gas turbines, focusing on the development of the Philippine power infrastructure.

In addition to the agreement with Meralco, Doosan Enerbility has also signed an MOU with Quezon Power, a private power company, to develop a combined cycle power plant in the Philippines. The two companies plan to construct a 1,200 MW natural gas combined cycle power plant in the Quezon region. Doosan Enerbility intends to supply gas turbines capable of being converted to hydrogen turbines for this power plant. Notably, the Philippines operates on a frequency of 60 Hz, similar to South Korea, facilitating the export of Korean-type gas turbines.

Doosan Enerbility will take on the role of design, procurement, and construction (EPC), including the supply of major equipment for the power plant, while Quezon Power will handle the sale of generated electricity, regulatory compliance, and project development approvals.
