[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Heavy snow across the Chungcheong and Jeolla regions on Thursday led to the cancellation of 136 flights and 77 ferries. According to a report from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) as of 6 p.m., flights were grounded at 68 locations in Jeju Airport, 31 in Gimpo Airport, and 15 in Gwangju Airport. Additionally, 77 ferries on 62 routes, including Incheon–Baengnyeong and Yeosu–Geomun, were halted.
Roads in 13 locations across Chungnam, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam were closed, while rail services on the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line were restricted to speeds below 230 km/h. Snowfall also forced the closure of 197 hiking trails in eight national parks, including Mount Mudeung and Mount Jiri.
Fire authorities responded to 44 incidents, including 23 safety measures and 21 cases of rescue assistance for falls. No significant additional damages were reported.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety activated Level 1 of the CDSCH response system and raised the snow disaster alert level from “Attention” to “Caution” as heavy snow advisories remained in effect for southern parts of the Chungcheong region, the Jeolla region, and inland areas of western Gyeongnam.
