[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, June 18 – SK Nexilis, a wholly owned subsidiary of SKC specializing in copper foil for secondary batteries, has entered into a strategic partnership with Japan’s Toyota Tsusho Corporation by selling a minority stake in its Malaysian subsidiary.

The investment agreement ceremony was held at SKC’s headquarters in Seoul, where SKC confirmed it had raised approximately KRW 150 billion (USD 110 million) through the transaction. The move comes amid a prolonged downturn in the electric vehicle (EV) sector and is expected to ease financial pressure on SK Nexilis while reinforcing its global supply chain.

Toyota Tsusho, a core trading arm of the Toyota Group, is actively involved in raw materials procurement, logistics, and investment in new businesses. The partnership is expected to enhance collaboration across the battery value chain, especially as Toyota builds out large-scale battery production facilities in the United States.

SK Nexilis and Toyota Tsusho plan to leverage their respective strengths to conduct joint marketing efforts and pursue synergy in future battery technologies. Toyota Tsusho will also secure a stable supply of high-quality copper foil, a key material for lithium-ion batteries, while SK Nexilis gains a strategic ally with global reach in the EV ecosystem.

The companies also intend to explore co-development of next-generation battery technologies utilizing SK Nexilis’ advanced current collector solutions.
