[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Police have launched an investigation after hundreds of live bullets were found at a waste collection facility at Incheon International Airport.

According to Incheon International Airport Corporation, around 300 rounds of handgun ammunition were discovered on the morning of September 2 at a waste collection site on the east side of Terminal 1. The ammunition was found inside a trash bag.

The Incheon International Airport Police were called to the scene and safely retrieved the bullets. After conducting a joint investigation with relevant authorities, no further criminal activity has been identified so far.

Authorities suspect that the ammunition might have been discarded by a U.S. military personnel who had departed from the airport and could not carry the bullets onto the flight. Additional investigations, including fingerprint analysis, are being conducted to verify the circumstances.
