[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Naver has significantly improved the web performance of its unified search, with some indicators now approaching Google’s level, according to recent reports.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Naver shared an analysis of its unified search web performance for the previous year on the developer community site D2. Naver reported that it achieved a 2.31-second LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) for 95% of users, which it described as "similar to Google's global performance, a target Naver had set."

LCP is a key metric for web performance, measuring the time it takes for the main content of a webpage to appear on the user's screen. It is one of the major metrics Google developed for evaluating website performance. Google considers a website with an LCP under 2.5 seconds to have excellent performance. While Google’s exact LCP is not disclosed, it is believed to be in the early 2-second range. An LCP between 2.5 and 4 seconds is considered "needs improvement," and anything over 4 seconds is rated as "insufficient."

Naver’s achievement means that 95% of users can access the main content of the search page within 2.31 seconds. The shorter this time, the less delay there is in displaying content, improving user experience. Naver improved performance by loading images only when needed and removing unnecessary code.

However, another key performance metric, INP (Interaction to Next Paint), which measures the time it takes for a page to respond to clicks or touches, was recorded at 260ms (0.26 seconds), indicating that there is still room for improvement. Google’s target for INP is believed to be under 200ms.

As Korea’s leading platform, Naver plans to continue enhancing user convenience to maintain its position as the number one service in the country.
