[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] KB Financial Group is set to embark on the development of a generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform that can be utilized by its affiliates, based on Microsoft (MS) technology.

According to a report by the Seoul Economic Daily on the 7th, KB Financial has applied to the Financial Services Commission for the designation of innovative financial services in the third quarter to develop a generative AI platform based on MS's AI model service, 'Azure Open AI (AOAI).' Additionally, a separate application has been made for the innovative financial service to utilize MS's conversational AI, 'M365 Copilot,' within KB Financial.

KB Financial aims to establish a system that enables data generated within its affiliates, such as KB Kookmin Bank, to be analyzed through the internal network of KB Financial and the domestic MS cloud region. This will enhance the generative AI services offered by the group. A senior official in the financial sector stated, “The service will be developed at the group level to be utilized by all affiliates of KB Financial,” adding that “implementing AI services tailored to banking, securities, and capital affiliates will significantly improve productivity.”

AOAI serves as a medium that allows other companies to utilize technology from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, which is a subsidiary of MS and is available on MS's cloud service, Azure. The Copilot service combines the large language model (LLM) 'GPT-4' with MS 365, MS's flagship office program.

Previously, in 2021, KB Kookmin Bank entered into a strategic partnership with MS to expand its data and AI technology initiatives, and in 2022, it signed a memorandum of understanding to develop financial content integrated with metaverse technology.
