[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines has decided to reverse its earlier decision to discontinue the business lounge service for Economy Smartium passengers.

On Monday, Asiana Airlines announced that it will continue to offer business lounge access at Incheon International Airport for Economy Smartium ticket holders. Economy Smartium seats, introduced in 2017 with the A350 aircraft, are a premium economy class offering that sits between regular economy and business class.

Passengers flying on long-haul routes (to North America, Europe, and Australia) with these seats were previously able to enjoy benefits such as business lounge access at Incheon Airport, priority boarding, and priority baggage claim.

However, earlier this month, Asiana Airlines had announced a reduction in these benefits for passengers with tickets issued after January next year, limiting lounge access until the end of February. This decision was met with significant customer dissatisfaction, leading the airline to retract its move.

Asiana Airlines stated that the decision to continue the service was made in response to concerns about customer convenience resulting from the reduction in benefits.
