[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] A police officer from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's mobile unit, who was critically injured in a gun accident during shooting training, has tragically passed away.
According to the Busan Police Agency on Wednesday, the 20s-aged officer, identified as Officer A, who was transported to the hospital following a gun accident at a shooting range in Daejeo-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan, was pronounced dead at 4:14 p.m. on the same day, shortly after the incident occurred at 12:20 p.m.
Officer A was reportedly injured in the head while shooting at station number 19 out of the 20 available lanes at the range. He was unconscious and immediately transferred to the hospital.
At the time of the incident, Officer A was observed suddenly bending his arm to inspect the chamber of his revolver and collapsed shortly afterward.
The police mobile unit conducts regular shooting training twice a year, once in the first half and once in the second half. On the day of the incident, Officer A and other officers from Busan's Mobile Unit 6 were engaged in training with .38 caliber revolvers as part of their scheduled drill.
Following the accident, the Busan Police Agency has suspended all shooting training and is conducting a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
