[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Boeing's largest union has agreed to a contract that includes a 38% pay increase over the next four years, bringing an end to a strike that lasted over seven weeks.
According to Bloomberg on the 4th (local time), the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 751 announced that approximately 59% of union members voted in favor of the labor contract proposal. The union reported that about 26,000 of the 33,000 striking workers participated in the vote, deeming the outcome a "victory." Under the new agreement, the average annual salary for technicians will rise from $75,608 to approximately $119,309 over the next four years.
The strike began on September 13 as the union demanded a 40% pay increase, marking the first strike by Boeing's workers since 2008. Following the end of the strike, hourly workers at factories in Washington, Oregon, and California are expected to begin returning to work as early as the 6th, with all expected to be back by the 12th.
