[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Lotte Group has initiated legal action against the creator and distributor of a false information document that included claims of a liquidity crisis and other fabricated details about the company.

According to sources from the retail and legal sectors, Lotte Holdings recently requested an investigation by the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, accusing the individual responsible for creating and distributing the false rumors of credit defamation.

The rumors began circulating after two YouTube channels published videos on November 16 titled "Lotte Group in Crisis" and a subsequent document summarizing the claims was widely shared the following day. The document contained rumors about a possible debt moratorium declaration in early December, potential financial fallout from unsold units at Lotte Construction, and predictions of a 50% reduction in the workforce across Lotte subsidiaries.

Lotte has asserted that the distribution of this misinformation severely damaged the creditworthiness of the group, destabilized the stock prices of its affiliates, and created unnecessary anxiety in the financial and securities markets.
