[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines announced on the 1st that it has decided to cancel its plan to increase fees for excess baggage and pet transport on international flights, which was originally set to take effect on January 2.
Economy class passengers on Asiana Airlines’ international flights are allowed to check one piece of baggage weighing up to 23kg for free (two pieces on U.S. routes) and carry one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10kg. Any baggage exceeding the weight or quantity limits is subject to additional charges.
In October of last year, Asiana Airlines announced that for routes with a flight time of less than 1 hour and 30 minutes, the fee for one piece of excess baggage would increase from KRW 60,000 to KRW 90,000 starting in the new year. For more than two pieces of excess baggage, the additional fee per piece was to rise from KRW 90,000 to KRW 120,000. Similar fee increases were planned for other routes.
For overweight baggage, charges currently range from KRW 35,000 to KRW 90,000 for items weighing 24-28kg and KRW 50,000 to KRW 110,000 for items weighing 29-32kg, depending on the route. These fees were set to be consolidated, with a new minimum fee of KRW 60,000. Additionally, pet transport fees, which currently range up to KRW 590,000 depending on the route and the animal's weight, were set to increase to a maximum of KRW 650,000.
