[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] POSCO's Pohang Steel Plant FINEX 3 Facility Resumes Operation After 10-Day Shutdown Due to Fire

POSCO's FINEX 3 facility at the Pohang Steel Plant has resumed operations after being shut down for 10 days following a fire on the 10th.

According to POSCO, testing began on the 20th to ensure that various equipment was functioning properly. However, the facility has not yet reached the stage of producing molten iron. FINEX is a technology developed by POSCO that uses powdered iron ore and pulverized coal to produce molten iron. The FINEX 3 facility can produce up to 2 million tons of molten iron annually, accounting for about 10% of the total molten iron produced at the Pohang Steel Plant.

The fire, which occurred early in the morning of the 10th, was triggered by an explosion inside the facility, leading to an immediate shutdown. The fire was extinguished within five hours, but the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
