[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] President Lee Jae-myung will convene an extraordinary Cabinet meeting on August 11 to decide whether to grant a special pardon to Cho Kuk, former leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, along with other politicians.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung announced on August 10, “The extraordinary Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. The agenda will include deliberation and approval of proposals for special pardons, commutations, restorations of rights, and other related measures.”
The presidential office had initially planned to address the special pardon agenda during the regular Cabinet meeting on August 12 but moved the discussion up by a day, scheduling it as a standalone item for the extraordinary session.
According to reports, the Ministry of Justice’s Amnesty Review Committee on August 7 selected Cho Kuk and his wife, along with former lawmakers Choi Kang-wook and Yoon Mee-hyang, as candidates for inclusion in the Liberation Day special pardon and restoration of rights.
