[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Thousands of products forged Chinese glass with the KS mark were found to have been used in an apartment building in Seocho-gu, Seoul, built by GS Engineering & Construction.

According to Yonhap News Agency on the 28th, thousands of Chinese glass that forged the Korean Standard (KS) mark was used in the A apartment complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, which was completed by GS E&C a few years ago.

The glass used in the apartment is said to have been installed in residential and cultural spaces such as handrails, banquet halls, sky lounges and rooftops. Chinese glass products, not tempered glass, have been installed in spaces used by many residents.

This was known when a company that failed to win a glass bid tracked down a low-priced competitor and filed a complaint with the police after obtaining evidence. Companies that supplied glass to GS Engineering & Construction and those that imported counterfeit goods from China have recently been punished by authorities.

GS Engineering & Construction said it did not know. In the process of subcontracting glass construction to a company, a large number of Chinese counterfeit glass was brought in, so it was not known.

GS E&C checked with subcontractors and found that they imported 2,500 sheets of Chinese glass to meet the deadline for their products and forged the KS mark and attached them in South Korea. The company is known to have delivered counterfeit products mixed with 1,500 genuine glass.

GS Engineering & Construction acknowledged its responsibility for poor management and decided to re-construct all the constructed glass to replace it with genuine products. In addition, it plans to accuse subcontractors of poor construction and claim the right to indemnity.
