[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Tesla is postponing the launch of its more affordable Model Y variant by at least three months, according to a report from Reuters.

On Saturday (local time), Reuters cited sources familiar with the matter, reporting that the budget-friendly version of the Model Y—codenamed “E41”—may now be released in early next year, instead of the initially planned first half of this year.

The upcoming Model Y variant is expected to be smaller than the current version and 20% cheaper to produce. Its starting price is projected to be around $49,000 before applying the $7,500 federal tax credit.

Reuters also reported that Tesla plans to begin producing 250,000 units of this new Model Y in the U.S. next year, with additional production in China and Europe to follow.
