[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines announced its first-quarter earnings on the 16th of this year with sales of 1.633 trillion won, operating profit of -31.2 billion won and net profit of -174.4 billion won.

In the first quarter of last year, operating profit was KRW 92.5 billion, but this year, it turned into a deficit as its performance deteriorated significantly.

Asiana Airlines cited an increase in depreciation costs of operating aircraft, an increase in safety investment costs, and an increase in oil and flight costs.

In particular, depreciation costs rose 28.8% (57.2 billion won) to 255.5 billion won in the first quarter of this year, which was cited as the main reason for the deficit shift.
