[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The electric SUV (sports utility vehicle) "IONIQ 9," which Hyundai Motors is planning to release, is expected to be equipped with high-performance high-nickel NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) batteries produced by SK ON.
According to the battery industry on the 25th, Hyundai Motor and SK On are in talks to supply batteries to Ionic 9, which is scheduled to be released by the end of this year. Batteries produced at SK On's Seosan plant are expected to enter new cars.
The IONIQ 9 is a new Ionic brand vehicle launched by Hyundai in two years. Earlier, Hyundai Motor launched the Ioniq 5 in 2021 and the IONIQ 6 in 2022. Already, models such as Hyundai Ionic 5 and GV60 and GV70 are equipped with batteries produced by SK On.
Industries predict that if IONIQ 9 is equipped with SK On's high-performance high-nickel NCM battery, the driving distance will be between 400 and 500km. The IONIQ 9 is based on Hyundai Motor's electric vehicle platform E-GMP and is expected to be the same model as Kia EV9.
