[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae Departs on Asiana Airlines Flight for the First Time Since Acquisition

Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae recently flew on an Asiana Airlines passenger flight instead of the group's flagship carrier, Korean Air, for the first time since Asiana's acquisition. Traditionally, Chairman Cho has used Korean Air for international business trips.

According to the aviation industry on Monday, Chairman Cho departed for Los Angeles (LAX) on an Asiana Airlines flight from Incheon International Airport on January 10. The specific purpose of his trip has not been disclosed.

This marks the first time Chairman Cho has traveled on an Asiana Airlines flight since Korean Air became Asiana Airlines' largest shareholder by participating in its third-party allotment capital increase in December 2023.

Korean Air plans to operate Asiana Airlines as a separate brand for the next two years, with a fully integrated airline scheduled to launch in October 2026. Last month, on December 16, Chairman Cho addressed the 11 companies under Hanjin Group—including Korean Air, Jin Air, Asiana Airlines, Air Busan, and Air Seoul—marking the first time he has issued a statement to the newly expanded group.
