[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LG U+'s mobile phone subscriber count has seen consecutive growth for two months, closely trailing behind KT, the second-largest provider.
According to the wireless communication service statistics from the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 20th, as of March, LG U+'s mobile phone subscribers, excluding internal lines and inbound roaming lines, reached 10,821,457, an increase of nearly 14,000 from the previous month. Following an increase of 3,000 subscribers in February, LG U+ further expanded its growth in March.
In the first quarter of this year, LG U+ has been making advancements in the mobile phone subscription market, narrowing the gap with KT compared to the previous year. The difference in mobile phone subscribers between KT and LG U+ has decreased from about 2.55 million in March last year to about 2.45 million in March this year, a decrease of nearly 100,000. LG U+ has even taken the lead over KT in the number portability market in the first quarter of this year.
As of March, the market share of mobile phone subscribers for each of the three major providers is as follows: SK Telecom with 40.7%, KT with 23.6%, and LG U+ with 19.2%. Compared to the same period last year, KT saw the largest decrease in subscribers, dropping by 440,000. SK Telecom followed with a decrease of 390,000, and LG U+ with a decrease of 340,000.
