[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) announced on Monday that it has issued corrective orders to Nexon Korea and Krafton for violating the obligation to issue subcontracting documents and imposed fines of 32 million won and 36 million won, respectively. NCSoft, which committed relatively minor violations, was only issued a corrective order.
According to the KFTC, an ex officio investigation into the gaming industry revealed that Nexon Korea, Krafton, and NCSoft had violated the "Act on Fair Transactions in Subcontracting," prompting these measures.
The KFTC stated that the three companies entrusted subcontractors with services such as game-related graphics, motion design, and audio recording but issued contracts either after the services had commenced or after they had been completed.
From March 2021 to May 2023, Krafton entrusted a total of 42 service contracts, issuing documentation specifying the service details up to 97 days after the services began. Nexon Korea, from January 2021 to May 2023, entrusted 75 service contracts, issuing the documents up to 86 days late. NCSoft was found to have issued documents up to 35 days late for 28 service contracts entrusted between December 2020 and February 2021.
