[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on November 18 that it had secured an order for two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) from an Asian shipping company. The total order value amounts to $242 million (approximately KRW 338.1 billion), with delivery scheduled by December 2027.
With this contract, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has surpassed its annual order target of $7.2 billion ahead of schedule, achieving a cumulative order value of $7.33 billion (approximately KRW 10.25 trillion) so far this year. All three shipbuilding affiliates under HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, including HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Mipo, have exceeded their annual order goals.
Hanwha Ocean also announced on the same day that it had signed a contract with an Asian shipowner to build two VLGCs. The order value is $237 million (approximately KRW 331.3 billion), with delivery slated for November 2027.
This brings Hanwha Ocean's total orders for the year to 42 vessels, worth $8.15 billion (approximately KRW 11.39 trillion). A company representative stated, "This year’s cumulative order value is the highest ever for a single shipyard in Korea."
