[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited ZEISS, a key component company for EUV production, a cutting-edge semiconductor production equipment, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two companies.

On the 28th, Samsung Electronics said Chairman Lee visited Zeiss headquarters in Over Cohen, Germany, on the 26th (local time) and met with executives, including CEO Karl Lamprecht.

Zeiss is a global optical company with more than 2,000 core patents related to EUV technology, which is essential for the production of advanced semiconductors, and exclusively supplies optical systems installed in ASML's EUV equipment. There are more than 30,000 Zeiss parts for one EUV equipment.

Chairman Lee reportedly discussed with Zeiss' management on key semiconductor technology trends and a mid- to long-term technology roadmap for both companies, and visited Zeiss' plant to take a first-hand look at the production of the latest semiconductor parts and equipment. The visit to Zais' headquarters was accompanied by executives in charge of semiconductor production technologies, including Song Jae-hyuk, chief technology officer (CTO) of Samsung Electronics' DS division, and Nam Seok-woo, president of Samsung Electronics' DS division in charge of manufacturing and technology.

On this day, Samsung Electronics and Zeiss decided to further expand cooperation in EUV technology and advanced semiconductor equipment in the future in order to strengthen the competitiveness of their foundry and memory businesses.
