[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Selected as Priority Negotiation Partner for Czech Republic's 30 Trillion Won New Nuclear Power Plant Project.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that the Czech government has selected Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power as the priority negotiation partner for a new nuclear power plant project worth 30 trillion won. The project will involve constructing four reactors, each under 1.2GW capacity, in the Dukovany (Units 5 and 6) and Temelin (Units 1 and 2) regions. Originally planned for one reactor, the Czech government expanded the scope to four reactors earlier this year, increasing the project cost from 8 trillion won to 30 trillion won. This expansion makes it the largest-scale modern project in Czech history.

The South Korean government backed Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power with a consortium including KEPCO Engineering & Construction, Korea Nuclear Fuel, KEPCO KPS, Doosan Enerbility, and Daewoo Construction to compete in the bidding. The main competitor was Electricité de France (EDF). Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power received high scores against EDF in terms of price competitiveness and timely construction capabilities. As of 2021, the construction cost per kilowatt hour for KHNP was $3,571, more than half the $7,931 per kW of EDF.
