[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LS Cable & System announced on the 20th that it will supply submarine cables to the world's first artificial energy island. The company has signed a contract worth approximately 280 billion KRW with Belgian power company Elia.

The submarine cables will be supplied to the 'Princess Elisabeth' island, which Elia is constructing in the North Sea, about 45 km off the Belgian coast. This artificial island is a floating structure designed to store, distribute, and manage power, connecting to a 3.5 GW offshore wind farm.

Upon its completion in 2030, this island will serve as a hub for regulating energy supply between the mainland, the UK, and Denmark. The island will house power conversion stations, energy storage systems, and grid connection facilities, with the submarine cables being used to transmit power between the artificial island and the mainland.
