[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] As of June 2023, Samsung Electronics reported a decrease in individual investors by 424,428, bringing the total number of small shareholders to 4.25 million. This marks a decline from 4.67 million at the end of last year and a significant drop from 5.67 million a year earlier.
Despite improvements in the semiconductor market, Samsung Electronics' stock has remained stagnant, leading to a reduction in individual investors.
The proportion of shares held by individual investors increased slightly to 67.66% from 67.09% in the first half of last year.
Key stakeholders, including Chairman Lee Jae-Yong, saw a decrease in their shareholding percentage. Lee's shareholding declined to 20.08% from 20.70% at the end of last year. Additionally, Hong Ra-Hee, former director of the Samsung Museum of Art, reduced her shareholding from 1.94% to 1.64%, likely to cover inheritance taxes. Lee Boo-Jin, President of Hotel Shilla, and Lee Seo-Hyun, President of Samsung C&T's Strategic Planning, also saw reductions in their shareholdings.
