[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] According to the telecommunications industry, Xiaomi smartphones are selling so poorly that less than one unit is sold per day. After LG Electronics withdrew from the smartphone market, Xiaomi attempted to capture the vacant market share in Korea but failed to overcome the low preference for Chinese smartphones among Korean consumers.
Xiaomi has been consistently releasing its main products, the 'Redmi Note' series, in Korea, emphasizing their cost-effectiveness. This year, they launched the mid-range 'Redmi Note 13 LTE' and 'Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G' models, priced between 300,000 to 500,000 KRW, challenging Samsung. However, it is reported that they couldn't sell even 10,000 units, resulting in these models being reduced to "free phones" for inventory clearance.
According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhones accounted for over 99% of the domestic smartphone market in the first quarter of this year.
Other foreign brands, including Xiaomi and Motorola, barely reached the 0% range.
