[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] According to the airline industry on Monday, a Korean Air captain and co-pilot who operated the Incheon-to-Brisbane route last December were involved in a physical altercation at a hotel in Australia after engaging in a political argument.
The two reportedly began arguing over differing views related to former President Yoon’s December 3 martial law controversy, which escalated into a fight. Both individuals sustained injuries during the incident.
The captain was taken to a local hospital, and the co-pilot was also reportedly injured. As a result, neither was able to participate in their next scheduled flight, prompting Korean Air to deploy substitute crew members.
Korean Air stated, "An unfortunate incident occurred at the hotel during their layover. However, there were no flights scheduled the following day, and replacement crew were promptly dispatched, so operations were not affected." The airline added, "We have since reinforced internal guidelines and conducted further training to prevent recurrence."
Korean Air recently held a disciplinary committee meeting in relation to the incident and has dismissed both the captain and the co-pilot.
