[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Woori Bank has announced plans to consolidate 21 branches across the country into nearby locations.

According to a notice on its website, the bank revealed on the 25th that starting January 6, 2025, branches including the Sejong Financial Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul, will be merged with neighboring branches.

With the growing preference for non-face-to-face transactions and a decline in customers visiting branches, commercial banks are increasingly consolidating their operations into larger branches.

A bank representative stated, "The aim is to integrate adjacent branches into larger ones." They added that some locations would be converted into "Digital Express" branches to minimize inconvenience for customers. Digital Express branches are unmanned outlets equipped with digital desks and smart kiosks, enabling services such as deposit accounts and loan consultations.
