[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] As part of the merger with Korean Air, Asiana Airlines has begun the restructuring of its cargo division, which will be sold to Air Incheon. Hundreds of employees in the cargo division are expected to transition to Air Incheon as early as next month.

According to the airline industry on the 9th, Asiana Airlines is conducting interviews for 800 employees who will work at Air Incheon after the division's sale.

The merger process has been advancing since the European Commission (EC) gave its final approval for the merger between Asiana Airlines and Korean Air at the end of last month. The EC conditionally approved the merger in February, requiring the sale of European routes and the cargo division. As a result, Korean Air transferred four routes (Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, and Barcelona) to T’way Airlines, and Asiana’s cargo division is being sold to Air Incheon.

The cargo division, sold to Air Incheon for 4.7 trillion KRW, generates annual revenue of 1.6 trillion KRW. Given the size of the business, Air Incheon is making thorough preparations for the acquisition. The company plans to complete the acquisition process by the first half of next year and begin operating cargo aircraft in July.

To facilitate a smooth transition, Asiana Airlines plans to finalize employee interviews this month. In addition to employees from the cargo division, workers from other departments such as maintenance and finance will also be selected for the transfer to Air Incheon.
