[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] On the 29th, the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union, the largest union within Samsung Electronics, announced its decision to go on strike. This marks the first time in the company's history that its labor union has declared a strike.

The union held a press conference in front of Samsung Electronics' Seocho office in Seoul, declaring, "We are announcing a strike due to the company's disregard for its workers."

The announcement came after intense conflicts during negotiations the previous day, specifically over the participation of two company representatives in the discussions.

Currently, the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union has around 28,000 members, which accounts for approximately 22% of Samsung Electronics' total workforce of about 125,000 employees. If a large-scale strike were to occur, it could significantly impact Samsung Electronics, which is currently on a path to improving its performance. Last year, due to a downturn in the semiconductor market, Samsung's Device Solutions (DS) division, which focuses on semiconductors, recorded a loss of 14.88 trillion won.

Instead of immediately initiating a full strike, the union plans to continue its collective actions through methods such as using annual leave.
