[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] Shinsegae Group announced on the 19th that it has newly appointed representatives and executives of Gmarket and SSG.com and implemented a partial reorganization. Alibaba, Coupang, Naver and other competitors have recruited a large number of executives.
Chung Hyung-kwon, former head of Alibaba Korea, who was appointed as the new head of Gmarket, also served as head of Alipay Europe, the Middle East and Korea, and served as a financial executive for Coupang after working for Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse.
Kim Jung-woo, who served as Naver's shopping platform leader (executive), was appointed as the chief product officer (CPO) of Gmarket. The head of the tech division, who leads the developer organization, is Oh Cham, a former Coupang executive. SSG.com also tried to reform itself by replacing its representatives and key executives. Choi Hoon-hak, the newly appointed head of sales at SSG.com, plans to concurrently serve as the head of the company and strive to strengthen competitiveness in Grocery (food and miscellaneous goods) and logistics.
Jeon Hang-il, CEO of Gmarket, and Lee In-young, CEO of SSG.com, who have led the two major affiliates of e-commerce, will step down as second-term and serve as advisors.
Gmarket and SSG.com will also reorganize their organizations to enhance efficiency. Gmarket removed the developer organization Tech headquarters from the existing PX (Product Experience) headquarters and strengthened future technology capabilities such as artificial intelligence (AI).
