[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LS is constructing the world's largest High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cable factory in the UK.
According to industry sources on the 30th, LS is establishing a joint venture company called LS Eco Advanced Cable with the UK-based Global Interconnection Group (GIG) to promote HVDC cable production in the UK. For this purpose, LS Eco Advanced Cable has secured a long-term lease contract for a 11.7 square kilometer site near the Teesport in northeast England.
The investment scale is reported to be £923 million (approximately 1.6 trillion won). The factory is expected to primarily produce HVDC submarine cables for offshore wind power grids. The plan is to obtain establishment permits by the end of this year and complete certification by the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) by 2027 to commence operations.
