[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] On May 19, a tragic workplace accident occurred at an SPC Samlip social factory located in Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province, resulting in the death of a female worker in her 50s.
According to the Siheung Police Station, the worker identified as Ms. A was performing a task involving the application of lubricant to machinery at around 3 a.m. When the accident occurred, her colleagues were unable to rescue her in time, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor has announced plans to investigate whether the incident violates the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
This incident marks yet another fatal accident within SPC group affiliates. In 2023, a worker was fatally caught in a dough mixer at the Shani bakery factory in Seongnam, and in 2022, a female worker in her 20s died after being trapped in a sauce mixer at the SPL bakery factory in Pyeongtaek. Following that incident, former SPL CEO Kang Dong-seok was sentenced to probation in the first trial for violating the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
