[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] Muan International Airport, closed due to the Jeju Air accident, will remain shut until mid-April.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced on the 18th that the runway closure at Muan Airport would be extended until 5:00 AM on April 18th (KST) to allow for follow-up measures related to the Jeju Air accident.

Muan Airport has only one runway, and when it is closed, the airport cannot operate. The runway has been temporarily closed since the accident on December 29th and was initially set to reopen on January 1st but was extended several times. The closure was extended once again until the morning of January 19th.

The extension is due to the remaining aircraft wreckage at the accident site and the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.

The runway is expected to reopen once the on-site investigation is completed and the damaged airport facilities are repaired.

As a result of the extended closure, Jin Air’s B737-800 aircraft (HL8012) will remain grounded at Muan Airport for a while. The aircraft had arrived from Taipei, Taiwan, just before the Jeju Air accident but has been unable to depart due to the runway closure.
