[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Chairman Chey Tae-won of SK Group revealed that SK Hynix is considering Japan or the United States as additional production hubs for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM).
In an interview with the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Shimbun on the 23rd (local time), Chairman Chey stated, "We will strengthen collaboration and investment with Japanese semiconductor manufacturing equipment and material companies," and added, "We cannot overlook cooperation with the Japanese supply chain in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) chips."
Regarding the increasing demand for HBM in connection with generative AI, Chairman Chey mentioned, "We are considering whether we can manufacture HBM in other countries such as Japan or the United States if additional investment is needed in addition to expanding production in Korea."
Chairman Chey is currently visiting Japan to attend the 29th Future of Asia Forum held in Tokyo.
Additionally, regarding semiconductor factories operated by SK Hynix in China, Chairman Chey stated, "We will efficiently maintain our operations in China."
