A local employee of Daegu Bank's subsidiary in Myanmar was murdered on the 27th.

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] Two local employees of DGB Daegu Bank's Myanmar subsidiary were reportedly shot dead by armed assailants.

According to financial sources on the 27th, two local recruitment employees of Daegu Bank's subsidiary, 'Microfinance Myanmar' (DGB MFI), were killed by gunfire from armed assailants in Myanmar on the 21st.

A Daegu Bank official clarified, "Although initial reports suggested the involvement of Myanmar rebels (PDF), this is not the case." They stated, "Emergency funeral expenses have been provided to the families of the victims, and additional support measures for the families are under consideration." Furthermore, they added, "We are temporarily suspending the external operations of local employees and enhancing safety and security measures."

Myanmar has been experiencing ongoing conflicts between the military regime and rebel groups since the coup in 2021.

Daegu Bank established the local subsidiary, DGB MFI, dedicated to microloans in 2019, and currently operates 26 branches, including its headquarters.
