[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] According to CNBC and other global economic media outlets on the 6th (local time), a subsidiary of TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor contract manufacturer, announced plans to invest $7.8 billion (approximately 10.71 trillion won) to build a semiconductor plant in Singapore.

The TSMC subsidiary, Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS), and the Netherlands-based semiconductor company NXP jointly announced the establishment of a joint venture company in Singapore to construct a semiconductor wafer manufacturing plant. The new facility is expected to produce wafers for automotive, industrial, and mobile devices.

VIS will hold a 60% stake in the joint venture company, while NXP will hold 40%. TSMC plans to license the manufacturing technology necessary for wafer production to VIS.

Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with wafer production and shipment starting from 2027. The establishment of this plant is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs in Singapore.
