[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] The number of industrial accidents at food company Ourhome's business sites has been revealed to average about 80 per year. This means that 6 to 7 industrial accidents occur each month. Recently, there was an incident in which a worker died due to a 'pinch' accident, but Ourhome faced public criticism for its insufficient response. There is ongoing criticism that Ourhome may be neglecting safety management, and there are growing calls for immediate measures to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
According to a report by the Kukmin Ilbo on the 28th, 374 industrial accidents occurred at Ourhome from 2020 until September of last year. The breakdown is as follows: 77 accidents in 2020, 85 in 2021, 89 in 2022, 74 in 2023, and 49 accidents by the third quarter of last year. If the fourth quarter of last year is included, it is estimated that nearly 400 industrial accidents occurred over the five-year period.
On the 4th of this month, a male worker in his 30s at Ourhome's processed food production plant in Yongin, Korea, was caught in machinery at the fish cake production line and died five days later. The 'pinch' accident that led to the fatality was one of 31 such accidents that have occurred consistently each year. In 2020, there were 9 incidents, in 2021, 3, in 2022, 8, in 2023, 5, and in the third quarter of last year, 3, making a total of 31. These 'pinch' accidents accounted for about 8% of all accidents.
Before the fatal accident, a similar accident occurred last month, where a Russian national in her 30s had her left arm and hand caught in machinery. The repeated nature of these incidents has raised concerns about safety negligence. 'Pinch' accidents can lead to serious injuries such as amputations or fractures, making it crucial to implement thorough safety measures to prevent such incidents. Additionally, cutting, stabbing, and puncture accidents have occurred at an average of 5 times per year.
