[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motor Group is set to establish a battery research and development (R&D) facility in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, marking the first time the group is setting up operations in the area.
According to a report by Maeil Business Newspaper on the 22nd, Hyundai Motor Group is currently in discussions with Anseong City and other stakeholders to create a battery R&D lab within an industrial complex in Anseong. The initial investment is expected to be in the range of several hundred billion KRW, with the first phase of completion anticipated around 2027.
The battery research hub in Anseong will be a facility where Hyundai Motor Group will conduct research, production, and testing of electric vehicle batteries using its own technology. The scale of the facility is expected to be similar to that of the group's Uiwang Research Center, which covers an area equivalent to 35 football fields, including research centers for Hyundai, Kia, and affiliated companies.
At the Anseong facility, Hyundai Motor Group plans to design batteries and produce prototype products for testing.
